Portrait Busts
Memorial portraits in bronze, for families honouring the lives that mattered to them. In 2012 — at seventy-one — Kurt travelled to New York to study advanced techniques in facial anatomy; he was already three decades into making likenesses, and wanted to go deeper still. The complete commissions were cast in bronze or amalgam bronze. The attention to the face as the bearer of presence was, by then, well practised — visible at scale in the four-metre Madiba and Child, whose face, Kurt later wrote, children insisted smiled back at them when they waved.
